Self-compacting concrete

EasyFlow concrete is our versatile range of self-compacting concrete designed for ease of placement and superior surface finishes. These types of ready-mixed concrete are free-flowing and move effortlessly through intricate or congested building reinforcement. Self-compacting concrete allows for faster placement and reduces the costs of labour and equipment in construction projects.

Each easy pour concrete can be customised with coarse aggregates, recycled aggregates, and evoBuild low carbon GGBS for building projects with reduced carbon emissions and improved durability.

Slabs and floors

EasyFlow is suitable for slabs and floors, including underfloor heating systems in both commercial and residential settings.

Precast

EasyFlow provides exceptional surface finishes for all precast applications.

Housing floors

EasyFlow can be enhanced with Macro (high-strength plastic) or steel fibres to increase tensile strength, meeting BBA standards for housing floors.

Benefits of self-compacting concrete

Free-flow concrete offers various benefits to construction projects, including:

  • Ease and speed of placement
  • Self-compacting
  • Free flows under its own hydrostatic weight through intricate or congested reinforcement
  • Pumpable, so it’s easy to reach difficult locations or at height
  • Minimal levelling/finishing required, without the need for vibration
  • Reduced labour and equipment cost, improving working conditions on site
  • Reduced noise as concrete pumps run more quietly, making it particularly suited to residential/educational areas
  • Reduced or eliminated remedial work
  • Complies with all relevant regulations, including British and European Standards and NHBC
  • Available from plants across our network

NOTE: These benefits are subject to good concreting practice (placement, finishing and curing).

What is self-compacting concrete?

Self-compacting concrete is a type of ready-mixed concrete that is free-flowing and moves with ease through building reinforcement that is intricate or congested. Also known as free-flow concrete, this concrete gives superior surface finishes thanks to being easy and fast to place. As such, self-compacting concrete helps to reduce the overall cost of labour and equipment needed for construction projects.

What is self-compacting concrete made from?

Like all concrete products, self-compacting concrete is made of cement, water, and aggregates (crushed rock, sand and gravel). Self-compacting-concrete has a higher proportion of fine aggregates than traditional concrete.

Where is self-compacting concrete used?

Self-compacting concrete (or free-flowing concrete) is used to achieve desired properties or overcome challenges in a variety of building projects, such as:

  • Foundation applications with intricate or congested reinforcement
  • Precast applications to provide exceptional surface finishes
  • Vertical applications requiring a high-quality finish
  • Slabs, floors, and underfloor heating systems in both commercial and residential settings
  • Housing floors that require a high amount of tensile strength
How does self-compacting concrete work?

Self-compacting concrete works by flowing and compacting into the desired shape inside a formwork naturally, without the need for external compaction. Its own weight allows the free-flow concrete to pass through reinforcement bars without blockage, reducing the amount of manual labour required to pour and compact the concrete.
