Fibre-reinforced concrete for domestic use

Minimise cost, maximise durability

Home range concretes can be produced using FibreCrete concretes. Heidelberg Materials’ FibreCrete is a premium range of fibre-reinforced concrete products, engineered with advanced fibre technology to boost both performance and durability. FibreCrete not only enhances durability and efficiency but also has the potential to eliminate the requirement for structural steel mesh reinforcement, streamlining your construction process. Our macro-synthetic fibre-reinforced concrete uses high-strength synthetic fibres, making it ideal for domestic applications.

Design assumptions - slab thickness and macro-synthetic fibre reinforcement suitable for documented loadings providing slabs are ground supported on sub-grade to a minimum 5% CBR value.

For loadings and/or dimensions outside the above parameters, please email concrete.technical@heidelbergmaterials.com.

From the experts: Home use concrete

EasyWay® concrete is one of the products I recommend the most for home use, thanks to being highly durable and resistant to frost, cracking, and abrasion.

It’s formulated so it’s simple to place, too, so you can complete your home project with ease.

Laura Harper, Technical Advisor

Did you know concrete typically starts to go off within two hours of being mixed?

Make sure you’re prepared for the delivery truck so you can unload and level concrete as fast as possible. If you can’t accommodate a truck at home, you may need to hire a pump.

And remember, 1m3 of concrete fills around 40 wheelbarrows, so if you’re reliant on them to move your concrete, make sure you’ve got lots of human-power to hand!

What’s the difference between ready-mixed concrete and bagged concrete?

Ready-mixed concrete is pre-mixed and delivered for large projects, ensuring consistent quality. Bagged concrete is a dry mix designed for smaller DIY projects and requires mixing with water on-site. Our range of packed products, including bagged concrete, can be purchased directly from a range of builders’ merchants across the country.

How long does home use concrete take to set?

Concrete typically sets within 24-48 hours for light foot traffic, but takes 28 days to fully cure and reach maximum strength. During this period, protect the surface from rain, freezing, or excessive drying. Learn how to prepare for a concrete pour with our guide.

How to prepare for a concrete pour

Can I pour domestic concrete in any weather?

Always avoid pouring concrete during extreme weather to ensure the best appearance and durability. Hot weather can cause cracking due to rapid drying, while freezing temperatures can weaken the concrete. Ideally, pour your home use concrete when temperatures are between 10°C and 25°C.

Placing concrete in cold weather

Do I need to reinforce home use concrete?

For small projects like paths or patios, reinforcement may not be necessary. For driveways or structural applications, add reinforcement (like steel mesh or rebar) to improve durability.
