How to calculate the volume of concrete needed for irregular cavities
Each concrete pour is unique. To calculate the volume of ready-mixed concrete you need for an irregular-shaped cavity, follow the steps below:
- Split your cavity into shapes - squares or rectangles, right-angled triangles, and parts of a circle.
- Enter the measurements of the first shape into our calculator.
- Note the volume of concrete you need for that area.
- Repeat the process for the different shapes that make up the cavity.
- When you have calculated the volume of concrete you need for all the shapes, add them up for an estimation of the overall amount needed.

Sustainable low carbon concrete solutions
evoBuild low carbon GGBS (ground granulated blast furnace slag) is a cement substitute with a lower carbon footprint than CEM I. Embodied carbon dioxide reductions of around 650kg can be achieved if one tonne of evoBuild low carbon GGBS is used in concrete, rather than one tonne of CEM I. How much ready-mixed concrete do I need?
The amount of ready-mixed concrete you need for your pour depends on the size of the cavity you are filling. As you would expect, smaller cavities need less concrete than larger cavities.

What is the recommended waste allowance when calculating concrete volumes?
Even the most perfect pour will waste some concrete. To ensure you have enough concrete for your project, we recommend adding 5-10% to the calculated volume. This will account for waste from spillages, uneven surfaces, and other factors.
What is the smallest volume of concrete you supply?
We deliver loads of ready-mixed concrete from one meter cubed to four meters cubed via Supamix, our mini-mix offering. We supply these small loads of quality-assured concrete to both domestic and commercial construction sites, including those with limited access.
