Setting the standard for the use of recycled sand in concrete
Our Bristol-based B&A Group is setting the standard for the use of quality-assured recycled 0/4mm sand in the production of ready-mixed concrete.
The company has received BS EN 12620 accreditation for the 0/4mm sand produced by the new wash plant it installed at the site in July 2025, which enables the recycling of excavated waste at scale.
“We are delighted to be one of only a handful of companies to reach the BS EN 12620 standard by developing a robust quality plan as part of WRAP Quality Protocol,” said Helen Griffin, Managing Director at B&A Group.
“The 0/4mm recycled sand produced by the wash plant can be used to replace the primary aggregate in ready-mixed concrete, helping to meet the increasing demand from customers for more sustainable construction products.”
Recycling Director Richard Wilcock added: “Compliance with the standard for our 0/4mm washed sand is another example of our commitment to conserving natural materials and promoting the circular economy.
“It is part of our strategy to enable our customers to build more, with less and another step towards achieving our aim to deliver 50 per cent of our revenue from sustainable products by 2030.”
In addition to the 0/4mm wash sand, the new B&A Group wash plant produces 0/2mm, 10mm and 20mm washed aggregate, providing a comprehensive range of high-quality recycled materials and setting the standard in circularity within the construction industry.
B&A Group is a leading construction soil and aggregate recycling company and became part of the Heidelberg Materials family in May 2024.
