Donation improves reading sessions
Chapter One UK is improving its reading sessions for young learners with new noise cancelling headsets, thanks to our support.
We made a £10,000 donation as part of our ongoing corporate partnership with the literacy charity that provides disadvantaged children aged 5-7 with reading support.
Previously, standard headsets made it difficult to block out background noise in busy classroom settings, which impacted on the quality of reading sessions. The new headsets will allow both children and volunteers to focus during one-to-one sessions, minimising distractions and maximising potential to build literacy skills.
Chapter One is dedicated to ensuring every child develops the literacy skills needed to succeed in their learning and in life. Its network of volunteers spends 30 minutes a week reading with children during term time. These one-to-one sessions help to build fluency, comprehension, phonics and foster reading confidence and enjoyment.
Lisa Barea, Fundraising Manager at Chapter One, said: “The headsets are a wonderful and vital addition to our reading support, giving many more children facing disadvantage the opportunity to enjoy positive and productive Chapter One reading sessions.”
Jops Hill, Social Value and FAIR Coordinator added: “We were delighted to explore new ways to support Chapter One, alongside our volunteer efforts, to further improve the quality of literacy sessions.”
